George and Lucy

Perhaps it's time to introduce you to the other members of our family. Please meet George and Lucy.

We're sure you expected to see a picture of dogs or fish. But no, your eyes are not deceiving you. George and Lucy are our cars! Think of us what you will, but yes we named our cars.

When we first started dating, Megs had already named her car Lucy just for fun. So of course we had to think of a name for James' car as well. George seemed very fitting. Ever since we have referred to our cars by these names. Even our families have followed suit and refer to our cars by George and Lucy too. It's so common to us now that we find ourselves talking about our cars by their names around other people and they will ask "Who's George?" Then we look at each other in embarassment and realize it's probably a little weird that we have names for our cars. And we quickly move on to another topic.

But today we have decided to be brave and show the blogging world our quirkiness just for fun. :)

It's Officially Summer!

Summer has finally arrived here in Seattle. I can't believe I'm writing that and it's almost August 1. But at last the weather has been more consistently sunny and warm and we've actually had to turn our fan on at night.

But the real reason I know summer has arrived is because tonight we had the Warner salsa for the first time this season.

Thanks to my wonderful parents, we also had shish kabobs, corn on the cob, baked beans and peach cobbler! But my absolute favorite is the chips and salsa. The Warner salsa is a recipe we've had for years. I can remember chowing down on it as a kid. There's nothing really fancy to it--basically tomatoes, green chilies, green onions and black olives and then it's marinated. It's similar to a pico de gallo, but much better. There's just something about it. I'm not a huge tomato person either so it has always suprised me that I enjoy this so much. It didn't take long for the chips to disappear tonight. Then somehow we managed to make room for all the other deliciousness.

Here We Go!!

We're finally doing it! We're officially starting a blog. Many of you read our blog from our trip to California back in 2008. It's been a long hiatus. Our main objective with this blog is to record our life right now--our thoughts, adventures, funny quirks, and experiences. In the meantime, our friends and family can keep up with what's going on with us. We're calling the blog "Spaulding Scribbles" because (we're warning you now) this definitely won't be a place where you will find elegant prose or witty humor. At best it will just be scribbles and scratches. But we do promise to make it as entertaining as possible.

Here's just a quick snapshot of life right now. It's July 2011. We've been married over 2 years now (my how time flies!) and have lived in the beautiful area of Snoqualmie for two years as well. No kids yet, but we're looking forward to hopefully experiencing that journey soon. For now we spend our days enjoying time together, working hard at our jobs (James at Boeing and Megs at Seattle University), doing endless home projects, playing in the outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, and going on date nights as often as we can.
